Minister's Letter November 2016

Dear Friend in Unity,

My favorite time of year, Fall! I love the sights, sounds and colors of Fall – the brightly colored leaves, pumpkins and mums – the cool crisp air and hot spiced cider! Sweaters and boots for the chilly nights and the smell of wood burning in the neighborhood fireplaces. All these things are unique to the season and I guess I like them so much because, just like Halloween, they only come once a year! None of these things are taken for granted.

All of these things I’ve mentioned are shouting “Change is happening!” And boy, this year of the presidential election has been one of really significant changes!

Many of us don’t feel we are responsible for the many changes taking place, and resent on some level having to deal with them. And yes, some even feel that way about the weather!

But, there is a higher purpose being carried out and recently I revisited “Conversations with God” (Book I) wherein the Voice for God explains this to author Neale Donald Walsch: “Thus you create collectively, and individually, the life and times you are experiencing, for the SOUL purpose of evolving.” He goes on to write, “You cannot change the outer event (for what has been created by the lot of you, and you are not grown enough in your consciousness to alter individually that which has been created collectively), so you must change the inner experience. This is the road to mastery in living.”

Mother Nature knows the secret of mastery – demonstrating always the change within to the change without. And we must do the same if we are to grow and mature spiritually at the soul level. Easy to talk about. Hard to do! After all, we all like things just as they are--- the comfortable things, that is. But even Dr. Seuss talks about change when he paints of the picture of Yertle the Turtle, building a tower, one turtle on top of another and another and another, until Yertle could climb to the very top and sees for miles. But then something happened. One of the turtles burped! And you know the rest of the story!

I guess the moral is, if you get to the top, don’t burp! Visioning that you and I can come to accept change as a natural process, both in the earthly and the soul sense. I welcome it and the new adventures it brings. Please join us as we move through the seasons of change at Unity of East Louisville! Wherever you are on your spiritual path, you are welcome here!
